Nestling at the top of the Grand Massif, this ski resort is so much more than just a winter destination, it’s an invitation to adventure, freedom, and the discovery of snow-white landscapes.

Freeride

Freeride is a state of mind above all else. It’s a taste of the unknown, the call of the wild mountains and the desire to leave your tracks in the fresh powder. Flaine boasts an exceptional playground for the art of freeride.

Our vast, varied and protected off-piste areas are home to legendary descents and breath-taking views.

The Flaine and Grand Massif offer a large playground for freeride enthusiasts.

The semi-circular Combe de Gers with its Onyx and Jais descents offers an amazing marked but ungroomed ski area for freeride enthusiasts who love steep slopes and thrills. With 800 metres of vertical, and north-facing slopes with fresh, quality snow, what’s not to love!*

You can also make the most of other ungroomed runs, such as Agate, Diamant Noir, and the Combe de Veret, to give freeride a go in total safety

Respect and protect

Whilst freeride is an incredible adventure, it is one that requires respect and responsibility. In Flaine, we are committed to sustainable freeride that respects the surrounding environment and mountains. Raising awareness to the risk of avalanches, respecting the flora and fauna, eco-friendly steps… we do our utmost to ensure each trip into the mountains is an opportunity to be at one with nature, in total safety.

Safety

These ungroomed runs offer all the thrills of free skiing in total safety. Monitored by the ski patrol, PIDA (preventative avalanche triggering plans) are in place to ensure your safety.
The day before, or on the morning you plan to head to the slopes, make sure you check our social media: Facebook and Instagram to see if any PIDAs are planned.

Advice

There are many freeride spots, but they can be dangerous if you don’t know the area very well. Never set off on your own; for your safety, we recommend you go with a mountain professional, such as a ski school or private ski instructor, who will take you to the most beautiful places.
Recommended equipment: shovel/probe/DVA (avalanche victim detector).
