In summer, it’s an ideal spot for family outings. You’re likely to come across herds of cows, and perhaps a few wild animals.

In winter, the lake is completely frozen over and covered in a thick blanket of snow. There is also a risk of avalanches, so it is not advisable to venture out unless accompanied by a guide.

Lake Flaine is fed by several streams located upstream of the basin. However, it has no overhead outlet through which the lake’s waters escape. Instead, the lake water escapes through cracks in the lake bed.

These sublacustrine losses are not, however, capable of absorbing large quantities of water, which explains the variations in the lake, particularly during high melt-water periods.

Please note that to get to Lac de Flaine from the resort centre, the route is downhill and the return uphill.

How to find us

Lac de Flaine is located just below the resort. To get there, you'll need to follow the hiking trails to the lake.

You can get there on foot directly from the resort center, passing behind the Ecumenical Chapel and then along the roadside. The path is signposted on the right before the ice driving school.

Alternatively, you can park in the free parking lot at P1, then along the roadside. The road is signposted on your right before the ice driving school.

After that, cars are no longer permitted.
