Flaine, your pedestrianised resort

by excellence

In the heart of the majestic French Alps appears a ski and mountain sports resort unlike any other…

Welcome to Flaine, a unique resort, known for its avant-garde architecture and pedestrian centre, ensuring a peaceful and safe atmosphere for families and visitors of all ages in search of a stress-free holiday.

Make the most of the tranquillity, safety, and beauty of Flaine for an unparalleled holiday in the mountains.

A pioneering design

Flaine is an unequivocally avant-garde resort. Imagined by Éric and Sylvie Boissonnas and designed in the 1960’s by architect Marcel Breuer, Flaine’s modern design and commitment to nature sets it apart from the rest. The buildings seem to blend harmoniously into the landscape, and with no traffic it is the perfect place to truly enjoy winter and summer sports with total peace of mind. This is a pedestrianised mountain resort where vehicles remain in the car parks, ensuring you can relax and unwind, enjoying a peaceful holiday, far from the city’s traffic jams.

Getting around

There are various ways of getting between Flaine‘s different levels:

  • Outdoor lifts: Running 24/7 during the season, they connect Flaine Forum and Flaine Forêt for easy, fast access.
  • Free shuttlebuses: A regular inter-resort shuttlebus service (summer & winter) runs between the Col de Pierre Carrée and Flaine Forêt, via the Hameau de Flaine and Flaine Les Gérats, guaranteeing an eco-friendly and practical way to get around, as well as inter-resort shuttlebuses between Flaine and Les Carroz (in summer only).
  • Pedestrian paths: These connect the 3 levels of Flaine Forêt, Flaine Forum and Flaine Front de neige.

When you arrive in Flaine there’s no need to worry, you can unload your luggage in front of your accommodation (free of charge for 90 minutes: Flaine Forum, Forêt & Front de Neige). Then you can use one of our car parks situated outside the resort. Charges apply in winter but not in summer.

Total accessibility

The resort is divided into three main levels: Flaine Forum, Flaine Forêt and Flaine Front de Neige, as well as Flaine Les Gérats, with each one offering its own services and activities. The levels are inter-connected by an efficient network of pedestrian routes and/or outdoor lifts, ensuring quick and easy access between the different zones.

  • Flaine Front de Neige – 1,500 metres: Skiers enjoy direct access to the slopes with access to the Aup de Véran gondola lift and the Tête des Verds chairlift. Beginners can take advantage of the learning zones with the Pré and Michalet magic carpets nearby.
  • Flaine Forum – 1,600 metres: The heart of the resort with a wealth of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. This is where you’ll find most of the activities and events, as well as the main ski run departure point with the Grandes Platières cable car.
  • Flaine Forêt – 1,700 metres: A little higher up, in this zone you’ll find quieter accommodation options and direct access to the slopes via Les Grands Vans chairlift and the Bissac magic carpet. It’s the perfect place for a peaceful stay, whilst remaining within easy reach of the livelier Flaine Forum.
In winter, these 3 levels provide doorstep skiing, with access to the Flaine and Grand Massif ski areas.
In summer, you can soak up the sunshine on a terrace whilst your children run around and have fun on the lawns of Le Forum in total safety. They no longer need to hold your hand and walk on the pavement… There are none of the stresses that come with city living here, in Flaine you can really enjoy the freedom of being on holiday.
  • Flaine Les Gérats – 1,750 metres: This level is the furthest from the centre. Whilst there is no pedestrian access, the free shuttle bus (in summer and winter), and ski connections in winter are a great way of getting to Flaine’s other levels.
